Week of april 15TH - april 19th, 2019
this will be a short but very busy week! there will be no homework. folders will be sent home again after the easter break.
a list of important upcoming events was sent home last week. if you did not receive it, please let me know. the next two months will have many special events and the time will go quickly.
wednesday will be a buddy day as well as an easter egg hunt.
remember to send in ticket money for the easter basket raffle. tickets are $0.50 each or THREE chances for $1.00.
please make sure your child has a snack each day.
thank you for practicing the word cards. the word card ring should be sent back to school every day so we can use them in class and add new cards as they are introduced.

what we will be doing this week:
Shared reading - our shared story will be there was an old lady who swallowed a chick. Identifying genre, sequence of events, and comprehension will be stressed.
math - we will identify how objects are the same or different based on certain qualities.
Religion - we will be praying the stations of the cross as a school on monday at 8:30. this is a Lenten practice here at queen of heaven school. try to join us for this beautiful experience. we will also share a book benjamin's box. This story retells the events of holy week in a very beautiful ways through the eyes of a young boy.
Guided Reading - students have completed benchmarks and have changed reading levels! please encourage them to read at home to continue to make progress. encourage them to use the raz kids app. Look for them to bring home books when we have completed them in class.
We will be working on sight words: am, did, do
writing - our writing this week will be based on the shared story and why the lady swallowed the things she did.
Phonics/Handwriting - this week we will continue learning about the digraph oo. Work will also continue on building, writing, and reading short vowel words. we are also Working with word families and using letter cards will be used to reinforce sounds. Counting word syllables and the number of words in sentences will also be practiced and assessed. time will be spent identifying and blending phonemes. Finally, We will review, use and add more sight words. Use the word rings to practice recognition at home too.
